The New York Yankees sent a scout to watch Michael Fulmer pitch Thursday afternoon against the Oakland Athletics.

New York is looking to add pitching before the trade deadline. They have also shown interest in the New York Mets' Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

"… I'll stay engaged with the Mets as well as every other club and see where it takes us," Brian Cashman said. "I don't think I'll have any dialogue with the Boston Red Sox. I'll take them off the call list. But other than that, we'll be very busy trying to improve ourselves."

The trade market for Manny Machado is heating up once again and the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies are the most aggressive suitors at this point, according to a source.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs are also contenders to acquire Machado from the Baltimore Orioles.

It remains unlikely that Machado is dealt until closer to the July 31 non-waiver deadline. He is also headed for free agency, which complicates the cost of acquiring him for what could be just a half-season.

The Texas Rangers are progressing in trade talks involving Cole Hamels and may move him before the All-Star break, according to a report.

The Rangers have discussed Hamels with the Seattle Mariners but no deal is close, according to sources.

Hamels is 4-6 with a 3.61 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in 16 starts this season. He is in the final year of a six-year, $144 million contract which includes a $20 million club option for 2019 with a $6 million buyout.

The left-hander also has a partial no-trade clause that allows him to block a trade with 20 teams, although he may be willing to waive it in order to join a contender.

The Boston Red Sox have acquired Steve Pearce in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Boston will send minor league infielder Santiago Espinal to Toronto for Pearce and cash considerations.

Alex Cora said the Red Sox are adding a strong batter they can use against left-handed pitching.

"It's one more weapon that we have. We got better tonight," Cora said. "It's good to have him."

The New York Mets will at least listen to trade offers for Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard, says assistant general manager John Ricco.

Ricco, Omar Minaya and J.P. Ricciardi are leading the front office following Sandy Alderson's leave of absence.

"We'll have to consider [it]," Ricco said. "For me, everything has to be on the table. But you have to look long and hard before you move a game-changing, top-of-the-rotation pitcher."

The Toronto Blue Jays are on the outside of the American League playoff picture, but a Josh Donaldson trade may now be more unlikely.

Donaldson has only played in 36 games this season and recently suffered a setback in his recovery from a calf injury.

He suffered an acute strain while taking groundballs in preparation for a rehab game. The Blue Jays will re-evaluate him in three weeks.

That puts Donaldson's return to the Major Leagues at least 4-6 weeks away.

The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31.

The New York Yankees want to add an impact starter to their rotation, but would prefer to do so without moving Clint Frazier.

There isn't a lot of playing time currently available for Frazier in New York, but the club likes his potential.

The Yankees acquired Frazier, the No. 5 pick in 2013, from the Cleveland Indians in the Andrew Miller trade in 2016.

The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to trade several veterans in the coming weeks, according to a report.

The moves would clear the way for the club's prospects to get more playing time.

Wilson Ramos, Adeiny Hechavarria, Carlos Gomez and Sergio Romo are among those likely to be dealt.

Chris Archer could also be moved if he proves to be healthy.

There are a few staffers who feel the Chicago White Sox will deal Jose Abreu by the trade deadline next month.

The White Sox have always placed a high price tag on Abreu.

In the past, the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies have been interested in Abreu.

The Philadelphia Phillies have interest in acquiring Adrian Beltre in a deal with the Texas Rangers, according to sources.

The Phillies have the youngest group of position players in the Major Leagues and would value Beltre for his clubhouse presence as much as his production on the field.

In addition, a recent injury to J.P. Crawford has opened up more at-bats.
